Molson Coors Beverage Company’s US craft division Tenth and Blake Beer has agreed to acquire Michigan’s fourth-largest craft brewer Atwater Brewery.

Financial details of the transaction are yet to be divulged by either company.

Tenth and Blake vice-president Paul Verdu said: “Atwater has been a staple and a leader in the Michigan craft community for more than two decades and we’re thrilled to have them join Tenth and Blake.

“Our priority is to make sure their beer is enjoyed by consumers throughout their core markets and eventually across other core Great Lakes states.”

Founded in 1997 as Atwater Block Brewery, Atwater engages in the production of contemporary ales sold under Dirty Blonde and Vanilla Java Porter brands.

It also produces a wide range of India pale ales (IPA)’s, an American brown ale and a host of German-style lagers.

Recently, the Michigan-based craft brewer also launched a line of hard seltzers and a small portfolio of craft spirits.

The deal is scheduled for completion within the next two months, becoming the fifth US craft acquisition for Molson Coors since it acquired Revolver Brewing, Hop Valley Brewing Co and Terrapin Beer Co in 2016.

Upon deal completion, Atwater Brewery owner Mark Reith will continue to lead Atwater’s day-to-day operations alongside his management team.

Rieth said: “Today is a great day. It’s a big day for me personally and for our employees and our brand. We’re really excited to partner with Tenth and Blake and Molson Coors, which will help us take Atwater to the next level.”

Last July, Molson Coors purchased Pardubicky Pivovar in the Czech Republic and Hop Stuff Brewery in the UK for an undisclosed sum.
