US-based brewing company MillerCoors is planning to cease production of light beer brand Two Hats to focus on other growing brands in its portfolio.

The decision follows decreasing volumes and profits registered during Q2 2018.

In a note to employees and distributors, MillerCoors’ national craft and innovation vice-president Bryan Ferschinger and sales and distributor operations president Kevin Doyle wrote: “We believe industry growth requires healthy brands across all segments, and we won’t stop trying to be part of the solution to growing beer.

“At the same time, right now we simply cannot get to profitable growth without significant improvement in Coors Light.”

“Right now we simply cannot get to profitable growth without significant improvement in Coors Light.”

Introduced in the market in February this year, Two Hats’ light beer offers natural fruit flavours. It will exit the market next year.

Ferschinger further added: “We plan to aggressively pursue innovation that will build our business and transform our portfolio. MillerCoors remains committed to quality and innovation, and we aren’t afraid to try new things.”

By ceasing the production of Two Hats, MillerCoors intends to focus on Coors Light and Miller Lite and plans to make further investments into premium brands like Arnold Palmer Spiked and Sol.

In an interview, MillerCoors CEO Gavin Hattersley said that the company is looking for a new perspective for its marketing and portfolio.
