South Korean multinational electronics company LG Electronics (LG) is set to launch its HomeBrew, a device that uses single-use capsules containing malt, yeast, hop oil and flavouring to produce a brew in two weeks.

The machine will be launched at Consumer Electronics Show ES 2019 event, which is held in Las Vegas, US, from 8 to 12 January.

Completely automated, HomeBrew can control fermentation, carbonation, ageing, serving and cleaning processes.

This device is being launched alongside an app, which is available on Android and iOS devices. This facility is intended to enable users to monitor the status of their brew.

Five single-use capsules have been created to create a hoppy American IPA, golden American Pale Ale, full-bodied ‘English Stout’, Belgian-style Witbier, and Czech Pilsner.

During the fermentation process, the machine can control the temperature and pressure level. Once the beer is brewed, it can clean itself with hot water / air. This self-cleaning function ensures no contamination due to cleaning residue.

“LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades.”

LG Electronics Home Appliance and Air Solutions Company president Song Dae-hyun said: “LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades.

“Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barrier to entry and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew.”

With each batch, the machine can produce 5l of beer and each brew would take around two weeks to mature, based on the beer type desired.

The firm is yet to announce the retail price of the device.
