Kellogg’s has partnered with Manchester-based brewery Seven Bro7hers to create beer from Rice Krispies and Coco Pops.

Called Sling It Out Stout, the Coco Pops beverage was made using 80kg of Coco Pops cereal in place of malted barley, creating a chocolate flavour. The other beverage, Cast Off Pale Ale, is produced using 80kg of Rice Krispies, which gives the drink a sweet taste.

Seven Bro7hers brewery founder Keith McAcvoy said: “Working with Kelloggs on the production of our first sustainability conscious beer Throw Away IPA was amazing.

“To carry on with this partnership and create two new exciting craft beers is even better. We are extremely proud to be working with Kelloggs and being part of the fight against food waste.”

The two beers contain 5.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) and are produced using rejected grains created in the cooking process at Kellogg’s Manchester factory.

Kellogg’s UK corporate social responsibility manager Kate Prince said: “Our primary objective is to convert every kilo of grain we buy into food that we can sell. However, that’s not always possible.

“Kellogg’s is always looking for innovative ways to use surplus food, the collaboration with Seven Bro7hers is a fun way to repurpose non-packaged, less-than-perfect cereal.”

Last December, Kellogg’s partnered with UK brewery Seven Bro7hers to transform leftover and rejected corn flakes into beer.
