Scotland-based Jump Ship Brewing has launched Yardarm, a non-alcoholic beer, with the help of crowdfunding.

With the support of  Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) ‘Back Her Business’ crowdfunding programme, the company reached its target of £15,000 in just six days. Around 170 people worldwide supported the crowdfunding.

With an ABV of 0.5%, Yardarm is brewed in small batches and made using natural brewing techniques of combining barley, hops and yeast with soft Scottish water. It is gluten-free, vegan and low in calories, unlike many standard beers.

Jump Ship Brewing founder Sonja Mitchell said: “It’s been incredible to see the response to the crowdfunding bid.

“Having the backing of so many amazing people not only gives me the financial resources needed to get to market but I also know that there’s a crowd of people looking forward to drinking my beer.”

Mitchell brewed Yardarm from her recipe. The product comes in 330ml cans with a healthy balance of malt and hops, containing 40 calories per can.

It is claimed to be the first beer released from Jump Ship Brewing, which comes with a recommended retail price of £1.99.

Yardarm is sold online through the UK’s alcohol-free vendor Drydrinker, as well as stocked by independent retailers.

The brewer is also holding discussions with specialist pubs, restaurants and wholesalers to stock the beer.
