Japanese brewery Sapporo is set to resume its beer exports to China from next month with the appointment of Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) as master distributor for Sapporo Premium Beer.

The sales consignments will begin for Sapporo Premium Beer, which is already being sold in North America, Asia and Europe.

According to Brewers Association of Japan, China is the largest beer-consuming nation in the world and beer imports to China is witnessing dramatic growth.

Due to the recent popularity of Japanese brands in China, Sapporo believes it is the right time to re-enter the market and launch sales consignments through a master distributor contract.

ABI is said to have a significant market presence in the premium segment. The Japanese firm plans to achieve sales of one million cases in 2022 through collaboration with ABI.

Sapporo Premium Beer will be available in 330ml bottles, 650ml cans and 20l kegs.

From November this year, Sapporo Premium Beer will be sold in China’s eastern part, including Shanghai and Beijing.

In August 2017, Sapporo announced its plans to acquire an equity interest in California-based Anchor Brewing Company.
