Scottish brewing company Innis & Gunn is set to build a new brewery in Edinburgh that will produce craft lager, India pale ales (IPA), and barrel-aged beer.

The new brewery will have the capacity to produce 400,000 hectolitres of product.

Innis & Gunn’s founder and master brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp was quoted by scottishconstructionnow.com as saying: “Drinkers around the world are increasingly turning to the amazing quality and flavour of craft beer and Innis & Gunn is driving this trend.

“It provides the brewing, packaging and warehousing capacity we need as we continue to strive to meet the surging demand.”

“Building a new brewery will cement our Edinburgh heritage, as well as create a focal point for our beers in the capital. It provides the brewing, packaging and warehousing capacity we need as we continue to strive to meet the surging demand for our lager, which is on track to be the number one craft lager in the UK, IPA’s and barrel-aged beers at home and around the world.

“For me, putting the brewery in Edinburgh, where we first brewed Innis & Gunn, feels like we have come home as a business.”

The craft brewer intends to build the new facility in the Scottish capital, but it would depend upon the outcome of the planning application.

In addition, the facility will feature canning, bottling and kegging capabilities. It is also expected to create 30 new employment opportunities in the region.

Innis & Gunn’s Perthshire brewery will continue to brew the Inveralmond Brewery range of cask and bottled ales.
