Scotland-based Glasgow Distillery has boosted its production capacity with the addition of two new whiskey stills at its facility in Hillington.

With the addition of two new stills, the company has expanded its annual production capacity by nearly 440,000 litres, which is the equivalent of one million bottles of single malt scotch whiskey.

The company named its two new whiskey stills ‘Margaret’ and ‘Frances’ in the honour of Glasgow’s two most influential female artists, Margaret MacDonald and her sister Frances MacDonald.

Glasgow Distillery said that the new stills are identical to its two existing whiskey stills, which have been christened as Tara and Mhairi, named after the relatives of the distillery founders.

In March, the distillery announced the launch of two new expressions called 1770 Peated and 1770 Triple Distilled.

The company notes that the first Peated expression will be available later this year. The Triple Distilled will follow shortly afterwards.

Last April, Glasgow Distillery released the third expression in its Prometheus collection, Prometheus 28-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt Whiskey.

Only 888 bottles of the new Prometheus expression have been released and each bottle is individually numbered and packaged in a presentation box.

Matured in Sherry Casks and fired by the smoky power of peat, Prometheus 28-Year-Old has a 53% alcohol by volume and offers hints of citrus with red apple and pear, as well as biscuit caramel and warming spice notes.
