Swedish firm Electrolux has acquired SPM Drink Systems, an Italian manufacturer of frozen and hot beverages.

The acquisition is said to be in line with Electrolux’s strategy to increase its presence in the hospitality industry.

Electrolux’s professional products head Alberto Zanata said: “We are excited and pleased to enlarge and complement our beverages product portfolio with such an attractive, modern and well-regarded company with a strong position in Europe.

“This acquisition is strategic and a perfect match to bring added value to our product offering.”

SPM Drink Systems also manufactures ice cream dispensers and has manufacturing facilities in Spilamberto, Modena.

With a workforce of 110 employees, the company has registered a combined net sales of nearly €30m last year.

In 2017, Electrolux acquired Grindmaster-Cecilware in North America to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing beverage segment.

At the time, SPM Drink Systems’ managing director Enrico Grampassi said: “We are pleased to announce that SPM Drink Systems joins the Electrolux Group within the professional division. Through Electrolux’s global platform, we will be able to expand our product offerings and accelerate international growth in the beverage industry, segment significant and rapidly growing in the catering sector.”

In January this year, the Swedish company announced planned to invest approximately $500m in its US manufacturing operations to drive profitable growth in North America.
