Ian Macleod Distillers is planning to build a new distillery for Scottish brand Edinburgh Gin to increase its production capacity by nearly 200%.

The company plans to build the new facility on a 1,357m2  site in Old Town, Edinburgh. It will feature a visitor centre, which will enable visitors to learn about gin production and create their own beverages.

The gin distiller anticipates that the new facility will attract nearly 100,000 visitors every year.

Ian Macleod Distillers’ UK marketing director Neil Mowat said: “This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the evolution of Edinburgh Gin.

“Edinburgh Gin is in high demand and this investment is our commitment to continued innovation and growth.

“Edinburgh Gin is in high demand and this investment is our commitment to continued innovation and growth.”

“Working with local businesses, including Staran Architects and Contagious, we are confident this will be a stunning distillery that offers a gin experience quite unlike any other.”

The planning process for the new facility is said to be underway. The first stage includes a glass-fronted entrance providing a street-side view of the facility, a rooftop terrace and private gin tasting rooms.

Edinburgh Gin expects that the new facility will support the company in meeting growing consumer demand for gin products.

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) recently released a market report suggesting that British consumers purchased nearly 60 million gin bottles at retail outlets, pubs and restaurants this year, representing an additional 14.4 million bottles compared with last year.
