Scotch alcoholic beverage producer Diageo has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to help consumers to identify whisky based on their flavour preferences and matches.

What’s Your Whisky tool makes use of AI and machine learning technologies to analyse consumers preferences such as sweet, fruity, spicy and smoky flavours found in single malt whiskies, creating a personal Flavour Print.

It also recommends a Single Malt whose flavour profile closely matches the taste of the individual.

To determine the preferences of the individual, the AI tool asks eleven questions to the tool user such as “how often do you eat bananas?” and “how do you feel about chillies?”

Diageo Research and Development principal scientist Dr Adeline Koay said: “We are using our extensive consumer knowledge, whisky expertise gathered over hundreds of years and cutting-edge AI to help consumers discover, explore and enjoy Scotch in new and exciting ways.”

What’s Your Whisky, claimed to offer a digital experience to consumers, will be launched across Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands, available in six different languages.

Diageo senior regional manager Andy Parton said: “The ‘What’s Your Whisky’ mobile experience allows consumers to explore a wide range of our Single Malts in a personalised and completely new way.

“We’re excited to roll this out at scale and help many thousands of people find their perfect Whisky based on the innovative FlavorPrint AI technology.”

Last month, Diageo opened a research centre in Scotland to support sustainable growth in distilling.
