Coca Cola’s sports drink brand Powerade has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of two zero-sugar drinks, Powerade Ultra and Powerade Power Water.

The product lineup of Powerade has been expanded after a decade, with distribution in the market later this year.

Coca-Cola North America stills business unit president Shane Grant said: “We’re responding to the shifting demands of the sports drink category with innovations that deliver on Powerade fans’ demands for no sugar and a range of hydration solutions for all sweat occasions.

“The definition of sports and athletes are constantly evolving. Hydration is no longer limited to sports – it’s a necessity for anyone living an active lifestyle.”

The company explained that Powerade Ultra includes creatine, branched-chain amino acids, vitamins B3, B6 and B12.

It has 50% more ION4 electrolytes compared to the original Powerade drinks.

Powerade Ultra will be available in three different flavours including Mixed Berry, White Cherry and Citrus Blast.

For release in mid-February, Powerade Power Water will be available in Berry Cherry, Tropical Mango and Cucumber Lime flavours.

Both bottles will feature packaging created by drawing inspiration from Powerade ION4 Advanced Electrolyte System.

The company adds that Powerade Ultra will be the first ready-to-drink (RTD) sports beverage in the market to feature shelf-stabilised creatine.

The Coca-Cola Company active hydration product development senior manager Nilesh Karava said: “This technology is new to The Coca-Cola Company.

“Other beverage companies have been trying to crack the code on creatine shelf-stabilisation for years, so this work is a clear demonstration of our team’s agility and curiosity.”
