Australian brewing company Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), owned by AB InBev, has launched its new low-calorie ready-to-drink (RTD) vodka brand, Actual Vodka Seltzer.

Actual Vodka Seltzer will be available in Pure and Lime flavours.

The Pure variant is free from sugar and contains 65 calories per serving, while Lime flavour contains 69 calories per can.

Actual senior marketing manager Marc Lord said: “This is the next big thing here in Australia, and that’s why Carlton & United Breweries created Actual.

“Consumers now want simple, no-nonsense alcoholic drinks and that’s what Actual is. Standing in front of the RTD and craft beer fridges with thousands of flavours it’s hard to make a choice, so we’ve made it simple.

“Australians are also becoming increasingly conscious of what they are drinking, so we think the boom will be repeated here. The results of the research led us to do something different, clearly calling out the ingredients on the front of the can and a commitment to being transparent in anything we do as a brand.”

Lord anticipates that the new drinks category could register growth in Australia as it had in the US market.

Actual Vodka Seltzer will be joining CUB’s existing portfolio that includes Brookvale Union Ginger Beer, Brookvale Union Peach Ice Tea, Lexington Hill Espresso Martini and Lexington Hill Margarita.

Last July, AB InBev agreed to sell its Australian subsidiary Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) for an enterprise value of A$16bn ($11.3bn).

The sale agreement has been entered by the company with Asahi Group Holdings.
