BWG Foods has recalled a batch of two bottled water products as a precautionary measure due to the presence of arsenic above normal levels.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is advising people not to ingest Spar Water Still Sport 750ml and Londis Still Water 1l due to arsenic fears.

The products have been recalled from Spar and Londis convenience store chains as arsenic was detected at levels above the prescribed legal limit.

In its release, the authority noted that consumption of the product does not cause any immediate or ongoing risk.

The Irish regulatory authority has also requested wholesalers, distributors, caterers and retailers to remove the implicated batches (batch code 177) from their shelves.

The UK Food Safety Authority said it is ‘working to establish if the product was distributed’ in Spars across Northern Ireland (NI), BBC reported.

The FSAI has advised buyers of the products to avoid consumption.

The UK’s Food Standard Agency recently announced that Tesco recalled four flavours of Tesco Finest Fruit Presse due to the occurrence of fermentation in some of its bottles, which could lead to spoilage and cause bottles to explode.

The four flavours included Tesco Finest Sparkling Valencia Orange and Passion Fruit Presse, Finest Sicilian Lemon and Mint Presse, Finest Raspberry and Pomegranate Presse and Finest Apple and Elderflower Presse.

The Food Standard Agency noted that Tesco also displayed notices at the point of sale in all its retail stores explaining to customers why the products had been recalled and recommending what actions to take for those who have purchased them.
