Beam Suntory’s brand Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky has released Bowmore 1966 50 Years Old worldwide.

Produced at its oldest licensed distillery in Isle of Islay, the Scotch was first officially bottled in 1996.

It is claimed to have been aged for five decades in a single ex-bourbon hogshead cask to develop a complex flavour and golden amber hue.

With 41.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), Bowmore 1966 is the third edition in the Bowmore 50 Years Old Vault Legends Collection.

“Bowmore‘s 1966 50 Years Old is a limited edition product, with only 74 bottles available worldwide.”

Bowmore released the first edition Bowmore 1961 50 Years Old last December, and released its Black Bowmore 1964 50 Years Old in June this year.

The latest edition offers lychee, pineapple, and watermelon scents, which develop into light floral notes and a dry finish.

Bowmore distillery manager David Turner said: “To this day, Eddie MacAffer is renowned at the Bowmore distillery for his passion and knowledge, which he so proudly showcased throughout his 50 years at the distillery.

“The Bowmore 1966 50 Years Old demonstrates the rewards of our meticulous ageing process and proves the unparalleled quality of the whiskies coming from our passionate and dedicated distillery team.”

Bowmore‘s 1966 50 Years Old is a limited edition product, with only 74 bottles available worldwide. A portion of those will be available in the US from December this year.

It is presented in a handmade crystal decanter and is housed in a handcrafted cabinet made from quality Scottish oak. It will be available at a suggested retail price (SRP) of $30,000 for a 750ml bottle.
