Alcoholic beverages producer Beam Suntory has made a donation of €100,000 to the Covid-19 Emergency Fund of the German Red Cross (GRC).

The donation will support the GRC to support the German health and emergency services in combating the coronavirus and offer relief to impacted communities.

Beam Suntory Germany managing director Nicole Ehlen said: “We are pleased to assist the GRC with this donation.

“Beam Suntory Germany’s top priority throughout this pandemic is supporting the health and wellbeing of our people and our communities – guided by our company’s vision of ‘Growing for Good’.

“We applaud the GRC for providing such comprehensive and important aid everywhere in the country, and we would like to thank all those who are actively helping to overcome this crisis.”

GRC will provide mobile medical units, fever monitoring stations, care for the elderly and mental health support and also supply food and other essentials to the most vulnerable.

With almost 175,000 full-time employees and more than 435,000 volunteers across Germany, GRC has been providing health emergency management services and related assistance as the pandemic spread deeper.

Earlier this month, Beam Suntory and its joint venture distribution partner Maxxium Spain pledged €240,000 to support hospitals and nursing homes in Madrid and Segovia in Spain to fight the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Beam Suntory is also producing hand sanitisers in its Segovia distillery. The distillery offered the use of its facilities to the Spanish government. The sanitisers are being donated to support government efforts to combat Covid-19.

Furthermore, the company is also supplying neutral alcohol directly to the police services Segovia for use in disinfecting their vehicles.
