Aromatic bitters maker Angostura has expanded its offerings with the addition of a new flavour to its portfolio.

Called ANGOSTURA cocoa bitters, the new offering has been produced using Trinitario cocoa sourced from Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and is said to add a sweet and balanced flavour to bitters.

Angostura master blender Carol Homer-Caesar created ANGOSTURA cocoa bitters after years of continuous research and trials.

Homer-Caesar said: “We believe our locally cultivated Trinitario cocoa delivers a far superior flavour profile to other geographic regions. Our hope is that our new, expertly crafted, cocoa bitters inspires people to create their own signature cocktail and food recipes to savour and enjoy with family and friends.”

The company claims that ANGOSTURA cocoa bitters contain notes of floral and nutty cocoa combined with aromatic botanicals and can be used to remix classic cocktails. It is said to pair well with sweet vermouth or aged spirits such as whiskey, rum, cognac and tequila.

It further added that its new product can be used in both professional and at-home settings, and for sweet and savoury applications.

Angostura noted that its cocoa bitters will be exported to several markets across the globe including the US, where it will be retailed at more than 1,200 Walmart stores initially.

The company is also planning to export its product to the UK, as well as European markets.

The launch of the new product forms part of the company’s plan to promote its local agricultural treasure, cocoa, worldwide.

Angostura introduced orange bitters 13 years ago.
