Luxembourg-based alcohol manufacturer and distributor Amber Beverage Group (ABG) has acquired a majority stake in spirits distribution Think Spirits Australia. The acquisition is expected to be completed in May this year.

Think Spirits founder and managing director Patrick Borg and his team will remain in their roles and no operational changes are expected to take place.

ABG CEO Seymour Ferreira said: “We are very excited to have Patrick and his exceptional team at Think Spirits join ABG. I am certain that the addition of Think Spirits will enable us to accelerate our drive to build a global platform for our brands.”

“Our companies share similar values and we believe the partnership will give us access to other brands within the group, allowing us to further strengthen our portfolio and teams for the benefit of both existing and new brand owners,” said Borg.

Think Spirits was founded in 2004 in Sydney, Australia. It has established itself across the country and now has a portfolio of spirits, including Martin Miller’s gin, Stolen rum, Teichenné schnapps, Seedlip and Casamigos tequila.

Although based in Luxembourg, the ABG owns distribution and production companies in Russia, Mexico, the UK and countries in the Baltic.

The company invested in UK alcohol distributor Cellar Trends in May 2017 to provide the latter with access to other product areas and the former with the chance to learn more about the UK market. It also expanded its partnership with US-based Beam Suntory to distribute the latter’s portfolio in the Baltic region in 2015.
