Supermarket chain Aldi is set to launch a new orange wine portfolio in the UK this month.

Priced £5.99, the beverages will be launched as part of the company’s August Wine Festival.

Aldi wine expert Sam Caporn was quoted by harpers.co.uk as saying: “In the UK, orange wine has yet to be made available to supermarket shoppers so it is exciting to see Aldi opening up this sought-after style to its customers.”

The new portfolio includes Cramele Recas’ natural and vegan orange wine, which is produced using Chardonnay (85%) and Sauvignon Blanc (15%) grapes. It will be released to the market on 11 August.

With 12.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), the orange wine variant is claimed to have the complexity of a red wine and the freshness of a white wine. It offers scents of vanilla, peach and apricot.

Orange wine has been growing in popularity in Canada and Italy. Its amber hue is caused by a long fermentation process.

Last month, Aldi launched non-alcoholic sparkling wine alternatives ZeroPointZero Sparking White Brut and Rosé in response to increased demand for low and no-alcohol drinks.

The ZeroPointZero Sparking White Brut and Rosé bottles have been created using a unique recipe and provide the same taste of sparkling wine, without the alcohol.

Both variants contain 35 calories per serving and are offered for £2.49 each.
