AB InBev has opened a new automated warehouse facility in Magor, South Wales.

With a capacity to store 23 million pints of beer, the 80,000m3 facility is expected to help AB InBev meet growing demands for its Stella Artois, Budweiser, Bud Light and alcohol-free Budweiser Prohibition brands in the UK.

AB InBev is planning to implement automated warehouse technology to all its facilities in the future.

AB InBev’s brewery manager Lloyd Manship said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to Wales. It means we can get our beer out and into stores and pubs faster and more efficiently than ever before, that’s ultimately good for us, our customers and the environment.

“We can get our beer out and into stores and pubs faster and more efficiently than ever before.”

“I’m proud that this technology is a global first for AB InBev and look forward to seeing its implementation all over the world.”

In addition to increasing capacity, the new warehouse technology is expected to reduce the brewery’s carbon footprint by 605t of CO2 by reducing the need for transportation between warehouses.

This reinforces the brewer’s commitment to its 2025 sustainability goals, which include a target 25% reduction in carbon emissions across its value chain.

The warehouse is equipped with robotic cranes operating across six storeys and nine miles of racking. It will be able to retrieve a stored pallet in less than 60 seconds.

The facility also features a CO2 Recovery Plant and a combined heat and power (CHP) generator, which converts biogas produced from the brewery’s by-products into clean energy.
