7-Eleven tests Fizzics Sparkling Cold Brew Coffee in self-chilling can

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven has introduced its Fizzics Sparkling Cold Brew Coffee in a self-chilling can in Los Angeles, US.

The coffee product is packaged in a Chill-Can, which was created by California-based The Joseph Company International and has already been recognised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), NASA and the US Army.

The new beverage is available at ambient temperature, and before consuming the drink, consumers have to activate the technology which chills the can as well as the sparkling coffee beverage inside.

In order to activate the technology, consumers are required to place the can on a flat surface and then turn the can upside down and twist the base to activate until a constant hissing noise can be heard.

The chilling process takes about 75 to 90 seconds to complete, after which consumers turn the can into an upright position in order to open the can.

The patented technology makes use of reclaimed CO2 and the process automatically chills the can and the sparkling coffee beverage within.

Made with 100% Arabica beans and all natural flavours, each 8.4oz can of Fizzics Sparkling Cold Brew Coffee drink contains only 50 calories, 10g of sugar and less than 80mg of caffeine.

The drink is available in three different flavours including regular, French vanilla and caramel.

7-Eleven private brands director Tim Cogil said: “Because the self-chilling can technology is so groundbreaking, we wanted to introduce it with a super innovative beverage. Sparkling coffee sodas met all the criteria. Previously available in some coffee shops, a handful of exclusive canned carbonated brews began showing up last summer.

“Fizzics will be the first that can be chilled on demand, bringing a new level of convenience to customers who want to enjoy a chilled drink whenever and wherever they are.”

During the test launch, the new coffee beverage will be only available at certain participating 7-Eleven stores.
