UK-based grocery and general merchandise retailer Tesco has launched a new range of low-alcohol wines in response to the growing demand for these beverages.

Sale of low-alcohol wines at Tesco stores is reported to have doubled in comparison with last year.

The new range will feature five varieties low-alcohol wines, including Cabernet Tempranillo, Grenacha-Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc.

Grenacha-Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc will be available in both still and sparkling varieties.

“In recent years, we’ve seen improvements in the quality and range of low and no-alcohol ciders and beers, which have put the wine equivalent firmly in the shade.”

Tesco’s low-alcohol Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc is a bright sparkling with a citrusy flavour, while the Sparkling Garnacha-Rosé contains raspberry and strawberry flavours. In addition, the still variety of Sauvignon Blanc is light and offers a citrusy flavour.

Cabernet Tempranillo has a medium red colour, which is expertly ripened to offer a spicy and smooth wine.

Produced using Garnacha grapes, the still variety of Garnacha-Rosé wine offers a fragrance of raspberry and a strawberry flavour.

Tesco wine expert Alexandra Runciman said: “Consumption of alcohol in the UK is down by 18% over the last decade and we’re seeing more customers looking for a quality wine drinking experience without the alcohol.

“In recent years, we’ve seen improvements in the quality and range of low and no-alcohol ciders and beers, which have put the wine equivalent firmly in the shade.

“This is the first wine range of its kind sold by a supermarket, which offers customers a real comparable alternative to popular varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc, without any compromise on taste.”

The British retailer noted that all its wines are nearly alcohol-free, with less than 0.5% of alcohol content, which has been developed in partnership with leading international wine producers Felix Solis.

The new wine range will be available in more than 700 stores across the country and via the internet.

The Sparkling range Sauvignon Blanc and Garnacha-Rosé available for £3.75 for a 750ml bottle, while the still variants of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Tempranillo and Garnacha-Rosé will be retailed for £3.00 for a 750ml bottle.
