Distribution company Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with wholesaler Jarboe Sales to form a joint venture (JV).

To be operated under the name Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Oklahoma, the JV intends to create a fully integrated sales and distribution operations network in preparation for the introduction of new provisions on 1 October 2018 that will allow grocery and convenience stores to sell wine and beer in Oklahoma.

The JV is expected to close once the provisions are in place.

“The JV intends to create a fully integrated sales and distribution operations network in preparation for the introduction of new provisions on 1 October 2018.”

Southern Glazer’s CEO Brad Vassar said: “Southern Glazer’s has more experience than any other distributor addressing the kind of regulatory changes that Oklahoma will be facing, similar to what’s already taken place in markets such as Tennessee, Arkansas and Washington.

“With that knowledge, and Jarboe as our partner, I’m confident that we will be able to bring the best brands, service and value to retail customers in the state.”

The JV is expected to significantly expand its customer base by using Jarboe’s distribution facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Southern Glazer regional president of Central Region Mike McLaughlin said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer retail customers in Oklahoma the broadest selection of wines, spirits and beers, with the partnership of Jarboe that has built their reputation on customer service, honesty, integrity and respect.

“Combing our world-class portfolio of suppliers and highly trained salesforce with Jarboe’s outstanding local operations team and distribution capabilities will create a model of efficiency and service unmatched in the state of Oklahoma.”
