US-based spirits importer and distributor Proximo has launched the Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey across the country.

Aged for four years in former Sherry butts, the Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey is claimed to have crafted from 100% malted barley and triple distilled in copper pots for producing a smooth single malt with a balance of rich, dried fruits and subtle oak notes.

The name ‘Sexton’ has been derived from the Medieval Latin word ‘sacristanus’, which means custodian of sacred objects and is used to describe the man who prepared the grave, the last man to witness the body before being laid to rest.

“We’re using classic Irish single malt techniques to craft the Sexton, with only three ingredients of 100% malted barley, yeast and water from Ireland.”

Sexton creator and master blender Alex Thomas said: “It’s exciting to bring the Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey to the US during a time when the Irish whiskey category is experiencing record-breaking growth.

“After years of experimenting with different cask profiles and laying the liquid to rest for just the right amount of time, I’m pleased to share a rich and deeply flavorful Irish single malt, perfect for every day and every man.”

The new Irish single malt is packed in a hexagonal black bottle disguising the rich Sherry tone liquid.

Thomas added: “We’re using classic Irish single malt techniques to craft The Sexton, with only three ingredients of 100% malted barley, yeast and water from Ireland. But what makes us truly special is our maturation process.

The new Irish single malt will be available at fine wine and spirits shops across the US for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $27.99.
