UK-based tea maker Twinings has launched three new floral flavours in North America, expanding its range of Earl Grey tea.

The Extra Bold, Lavender and Jasmine variants are a part of the company's commitment to offering beverages, which combine taste, flavour and aroma.

Richard Twining first brewed the classic Earl Grey blend in 1831 for the then-UK Prime Minister Charles Grey, who wanted to replicate a tea he’d been served by a Chinese bureaucrat.

"We know these new blends will resonate with a new generation of tea drinkers."

The blend was named after the Prime Minister, who in gratitude gave it his royal seal of approval.

Tenth-generation Twining family member Stephen Twining said: "As the originators of Earl Grey tea, I believe it is our mission to provide innovative and delicious takes on the classic blend.

"Lavender and jasmine compliment the bold flavour of bergamot, which is the keynote in Earl Grey. Extra Bold is perfect for Earl Grey lovers who crave an intensified, more vibrant taste.

"We know these new blends will resonate with a new generation of tea drinkers."

Twinings claimed that its Earl Grey and English Breakfast Chai Lattes, as well as herbal infusions are made from the finest ingredients.

With customers in more than 100 countries, Twinings offers multiple flavours across black, green and herbal teas categories.

Twinings tea is available across the US at grocery stores, mass merchandisers and speciality stores.
