Dairy company Tonicorp has opened its new dairy production plant in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The plant opened with an investment of $100m. Tonicorp is jointly operated by non-alcoholic producer and distributor Arca Continental and global beverage firm Coca-Cola.

With the new plant, Tonicorp is expected to increase its production capacity by up to 150 million litres of dairy products per year.

Arca Continental's chief executive officer (CEO) Francisco Garza Egloff said: “Consistent with our long-term vision for our businesses, we continue strengthening our investment strategy in the region’s high value-added dairy segment, solidifying our production capacity under the strictest quality, efficiency, and sustainability standards.

“The strengthening of this business reinforces Arca Continental’s commitment to Ecuador, as well as our constant effort to better serve our customers and consumers to collaborate in the integral development of the community.”

Arca Continental, Coca-Cola, and Tonicorp plan to further focus on the innovation in the Ecuadorian dairy industry with the opening of the new dairy plant.

The Coca-Cola Company's Andean region general manager Louis Balat said: “In 2014 we announced, together with our bottling partner Arca Continental, our investment commitments for the country.

“The new plant will enable us to continue innovating, not only our portfolio but new market segments, as well as a Total Beverage Company.”

The Tonicorp plant is supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
