UK-based general merchandise retailer Tesco has initiated sales of Chinese produced Cabernet Sauvignon wine across all its stores in the country.

The new Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 wine is a cross between classic Bordeaux and a fruity Australian wine.

The Chateau Changyu Moser XV estate is claimed to have 100 winemakers making 150 million bottles a year.

Tesco's master of wine James Davis believes that the latest launch could help give it its first major push in the UK.

Davis said: “China is one of the world’s biggest consumers of wine, drinking almost two billion bottles of red wine each year.

“And now they are one of the largest wine-producing countries in the world, ahead of the more traditional regions of Chile and New Zealand.

“Produced in a warm and dry climate, the Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, is a dark ruby red.”

The new product will be sold at 700 stores and can also be purchased through the company’s website.

With the addition of Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Tesco now sells wine from 20 countries around the world including Hungary, Israel, and Greece.

According to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), China has the second biggest vineyard area in the world after Spain.
