Birch water brand Tapped has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support future growth.

The brand was set up two years ago by Paul Lederer and Charlie Hoare, backed by Zoopla's founder Alex Chesterman OBE.

The company saw sales growth of 87% over the last 12 months. The brand now intends to raise a minimum of £200,000 through crowdfunding website Seedrs. Funds raised will be invested in sales and marketing activities.

Lederer said: “Having expanded our distribution base for Tapped this year, now is the time for us to invest further in marketing so we can raise awareness, trial, and consumption of birch water”

"We have several new flavours ready for our 250ml format and have had enquiries about a larger pack from half a dozen retailers."

The brand is also planning to expand its range with new flavours and pack sizes.

Charlie Hoare added: “We have several new flavours ready for our 250ml format and have had enquiries about a larger pack from half a dozen retailers”

Tree waters such as birch water are expected to grow into a $1bn plus global market over the next decade as consumers move away from sugary and artificially sweetened soft drinks and turn to natural, healthy, low-calorie soft drinks.

Birch water is considered to be naturally low in calories with only 4kcals per 100ml. A 250ml carton of Tapped’s Straight From The Tree Organic Birch Water has less than 10 calories.

The range includes Pure Organic, Apple & Root Ginger, and Bilberry & Lingonberry.
