US-based coffee firm Starbucks has unveiled its new limited edition coffee, Cascara Latte, with a coffee cherry flavour.

To be available from 10 January, the new coffee is inspired by the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle, US.

Starbucks beverage research and development team member Erin Marinan said: “Cascara is Spanish for ‘husk,’ and we are taking the fruit of the coffee cherry to give our latte a subtle, lightly sweet flavour."

"US-based coffee firm Starbucks has unveiled its new limited edition coffee, Cascara Latte, with a coffee cherry flavour."

Cascara Latte features espresso with steamed milk and cascara syrup topped with foam, along with the firm's signature straight line finish using cascara extract and cane sugar.

Marinan added: “Cascara Latte has a nice dark brown sugar and maple flavour that is subtly sweet. As you look at the beverage from the top, it looks like a coffee bean. It’s full circle."

Cascara, the outer skin and pulp of coffee cherries, was first paired with coffee by Baristas from the Starbucks Reserve Roastery at the Barista Innovation Challenge in last September.

The firm also relaunched its Starbucks Smoked Butterscotch Latte on 6 January.

Initially launched in 2015, the Smoked Butterscotch Latte features espresso with steamed milk and smoked butterscotch sauce, finished with a sprinkling of smoky butterscotch topping.

The company claim that the sweetness of the butterscotch is balanced by the smoky flavour.
