Mexico-based Patrón has expanded its core range after 25 years by introducing Patrón Extra Añejo tequila.

The company explained that Extra Añejo has been crafted using 100% Weber Blue Agave and distilled using the ancient tahona process and the advanced modern roller mill method.

The resulting product is aged for more than three years in used and new American, French and Hungarian oak barrels in order to impart an aroma and taste of dry fruits, banana, honey and vanilla, together with the distinctive flavour of light agave and oak.

Patrón added that Extra Añejo can be consumed on its own or mixed with the cocktail drink.

"More people across the globe have come to recognise and value the sophistication of this world-class spirit."

Extra Añejo will join Patrón Silver, Patrón Reposado and Patrón Añejo, which have been aged for more than 12 months.

Patrón Spirits global chief marketing officer Lee Applbaum said: "When Patrón launched nearly three decades ago, the world was a very different place for tequila.

"Fast-forward to today, the evolution of the ultra-premium tequila category has been extraordinary, as more people across the globe have come to recognise and value the sophistication of this world-class spirit."

Patrón Extra Añejo features the same packaging as Patrón's other core tequilas, and the product will be hand-numbered and labelled to ensure quality.

The new tequila will be available with fine spirits and liquor retailers across the country for the suggested retail price (SRP) of $89.99 for a 750ml bottle.

It will also be available in a 375ml size bottle.
