Nestlé is expected to launch additional flavoured versions of its sparkling waters, as consumer interest wanes toward both sugary and diet sodas.

The Vevey-based beverge giant will release a green-apple flavor for Perrier and a cherry-lemon flavor for Poland Spring, reported The Wall Street Journal.

These will be packed in redesigned slim cans and are targeted at tapping the growing demand of sparkling water ranges.

Nestlé Waters CEO Marco Settembri was quoted by WSJ as saying: "People want bubbles. But they want healthy bubbles."

Nestlé SA is eyeing the growing health conscious consumer who is wary about soda consumption as it rolls out new products. It is also looking to boost investment in the large US market to improve the profitability of its global water business.

Approximately $200m will be invested in the US market alone by Nestle to construct seven production lines this year, with an aim to double its production capacity.

Nestlé Waters generates a 9.7% margin, the lowest in all the company’s business segments. Overall, Nestlé’s margin is 15.3%.

The new strategy is also expected to benefit Nestle in helping compete with rivals such as Coke and Pepsi, as they are also mulling to launch more products to achieve sustainable growth.
