Nespresso, a Nestlé premium single-serve coffee brand, is set to relaunch Cuban coffee in the US after five decades.

Recent regulatory changes in the US have allowed Nespresso to offer new Cuban Nespresso Grand Cru, Cafecito de Cuba from the third quarter (September to December) of this year.

Initially, these drinks will be launched as a limited edition. In the long term, Nespresso will work along with its partner TechnoServe, a nonprofit development organisation, to explore aspects of working with small holder coffee farmers in Cuba, providing assistance and support in production of sustainable coffee.

"Nespresso is thrilled to be the first to bring this rare coffee to the US."

Cuba has been producing quality Arabica coffee for the last two centuries, and from this year Nespresso will purchase Arabica coffee from the country.

Nespresso USA president Guillaume Le Cunff said: "At Nespresso, we always aim to delight consumers through exclusive, unique coffee experiences.

"Nespresso is thrilled to be the first to bring this rare coffee to the US, allowing consumers to rediscover this distinct coffee profile. Over the long-term, we have a view to supporting the development of environmentally sustainable coffee farming practices for smallholder farmers which benefit the farmers themselves and their communities.

"Ultimately, we want consumers in the US to experience this incredible coffee and to enjoy it now and for years to come."

In April, the US Department of State updated its list of goods that can be imported from Cuba and this list included coffee.
