Mondi Coatings, a unit of South Africa-based packaging firm Mondi, has launched a new paper-based bag coated with Sustainex, which enables the collection of coffee capsules.

The launch is in line with an order for a sustainable collection bag from Nespresso Austria.

The biodegradable, compostable and recyclable biopolymer bag will be used as a collection bag for the Nespresso recycling programme.

Nespresso Austria market director Dietmar Keuschnig said recycling of capsules is one of the major corner stones of the Nespresso Ecolaboration programme.

"In close collaboration with leading experts, we want to make it as convenient as possible for our club members to collect coffee capsules. Thanks to the new Nespresso Recycling Bag we are confident to increase our recycling rate even more," added Keuschnig.

Made with Forest Stewardship Council certified paper with a Sustainex coating and recycled aluminium, the recyclable bag features a sealing strip that enables the closing of the bag and can be transported to one of 1.300 local Nespresso recycling points, claims Mondi Coatings.

Mondi Extrusion Coatings managing director Michael Strobl said, "The use of paper in combination with Sustainex® supports both the look & feel and the high environmental requirements that Nespresso envisioned."
