Battery manufacturer Eveready Industries India intends to reorganise its packet tea business.

The firm is examining all feasible options including continuation of existing packet tea operations through a completely-owned unit.

Eveready Industries' managing director Amritanshu Khaitan was quoted by Indiaretailing.com as saying: “The objective of the exercise is to provide sharper focus to the packet tea business, which is currently not adequate as it remains mixed with the Eveready branded product verticals of dry batteries, flashlights, lighting products, and home appliances.”

"There was a huge gap between the tea business and our other products. To grow the packet tea business, we need fresh investments for this category only."

The packet tea subsidiary will require an annual investment of Rs100 ($14.9m) for branding.

It will also be able to leverage Eveready’s current distribution network of around one million outlets. The company expects to complete this plan in a few months.
