California-based Crispin Cider Company has extended its barrel-aged programme with the launch of Bourbon Char.

Bourbon Char is a bourbon cask-aged hard apple cider finished with a smoked maple syrup.

The firm stated that the limited release is inspired by bourbon's sweet and smoky flavour, which naturally pairs with apples.

"The limited release offers our fans another refreshing, yet complex flavour to elevate their drinking and dining occasions."

In addition to the new launch, Crispin offers Original and Pacific Pear flavours in six-pack bottles.

All Crispin ciders are naturally fermented that use unpasteurised extracts of fresh-pressed American apples and pears procured from Washington and Oregon. By following the classic fermentation process, Crispin ciders retain the natural fruit flavours present in hard cider prepared from fresh-pressed fruit.

Crispin Cider Company marketing director Anup Shah said: “We're committed to making an impact on the cider category, as evidenced by our continued flavour innovation.”

Bourbon Char is available in 22oz bottles across the US at select places for a limited time.

Crispin cider creator Victoria Tonini said: “Fans of Crispin have come to know our ciders for their high quality but have come to love them because of our innovation.

“With Bourbon Char, we hope cider drinkers will be pleasantly surprised by the uniquely smoky, yet subtly sweet apple cider. The limited release offers our fans another refreshing, yet complex flavour to elevate their drinking and dining occasions."

The Bourbon Char Cider has alcohol by volume of 6.9% and comes in cloudy, golden sunflower colour.
