Global beverage company Coca-Cola has expanded its sports drinks portfolio with the addition of nutrient-enhanced performance beverage vitaminwater active.

The company claims that its new product features electrolytes obtained from natural sources such as coconut water and sea salt.

Vitaminwater active is said to be naturally sweetened with cane sugar and includes antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, B5, B6, and B12. It is also claimed to contain 100 calories per 15.2oz bottle.

By the end of 2017, vitaminwater active will be available at all 7-Eleven and Target stores in California and Nevada, as well as HEB grocery outlets in Texas

It will be distributed to various locations across the country at a later stage.

Coca-Cola Group director of vitaminwater trademark Ami Mathur said: “vitaminwater active is the performance drink for the rest of us.

“We’re here to hydrate those who appreciate the fun side of fitness, not necessarily those who live for a competitive sport.”

The brand will be offered in three different flavours including ‘move it’ (strawberry and black cherry flavoured), ‘werk it’ (orange and mango flavoured) and ‘pump it’ (lemon and lime flavoured).

The new brand will be added to the existing sports drink portfolio of Coca-Cola North America, which includes brands such as Powerade and Honest Sport.

Mathur further added: “vitaminwater has always been a brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously, so we are going to have a lot of fun getting vitaminwater active out there to our fans who have been asking for it.

“We're just getting started and can’t wait for everyone to see what we have planned for our national rollout next year.”
