Personal care brand Burt's Bees has debuted into the beverage sector with three plant-based protein shakes; Daily Protein, Protein +Gut, and Protein +Healthy Radiance.

Protein +Gut Health contains probiotics, and Protein +Healthy Radiance is made of antioxidant vitamins A, C and E.

The protein shakes comprise 15g of proteins per serving, which are extracted from pea, rice, flaxseed, sunflower seed, and oat. The protein content aims at digestibility and essential amino acid profiles.

"Entering the functional foods space is a natural extension for us."

The shakes additionally contain vitamins sourced from fruits and vegetables, such as spinach, shiitake mushroom and strawberry.

These drinks are claimed to be non-genetically modefied organism (GMO), gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, and free of artificial sweeteners or flavours.

Burt's Bees general manager Jim Geikie said: "Entering the functional foods space is a natural extension for us. For three decades, Burt's Bees has connected people to the beauty, wisdom and power of nature.

"And for just as long, we've held the belief that real beauty and well-being should be nourished from the inside out. We've been nurturing skin with nature's most powerful ingredients. Now we're helping to nourish the body with them."

Packaged in 100% postconsumer recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and fully recyclable tubs, the new shakes are developed with proteins that contain 70% organic ingredients, certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

While Protein +Gut Health and Protein +Healthy Radiance also offer 4.5 servings of fruits and vegetables, all the shakes are made with honey, monk fruit extract and Stevia leaf extract for sweetness, and come in vanilla or chocolate flavours.

Burt's Bees protein shakes are available for purchase on burtsbees.com, amazon.com, and at select retailers.
