7-Eleven has launched its first Rainforest Alliance certified Nicaragua single-origin coffee from Matagalpa.

The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organisation that focuses on conserving biodiversity.

Being Rainforest Alliance certified indicates that the new coffee has been collected from coffee growers whose farms are required to meet certain standards, which are set to preserve the environment and wildlife, and improve the well-being of local communities.

"Our goal was to source a coffee that could carry the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal."

The new single-origin coffee is claimed to be prepared from 100% Arabica beans, sourced from Nicaragua's Matagalpa region. It is a full-bodied, medium-dark roast with a dark chocolate aroma and sweet notes of cocoa.

7-Eleven fresh food and proprietary beverage merchandising vice-president Nancy Smith said: "Our Matagalpa Nicaraguan coffee delivers a smooth, rich and robust flavour, it's a great tasting, premium cup of coffee without the premium price.

"Our goal was to source a coffee that could carry the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal and provide a great-tasting addition to our selection of fresh-brewed coffees."

7-Eleven claimed that all its coffee varieties are exclusive and created with specific roasting levels.

The new Nicaragua single-origin coffee from Matagalpa is available at select 7-Eleven stores in the US.
