Diageo has launched new Canadian whisky Entrapment under its Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling brand in select US markets.

The new whiskey is part of a 1992 batch of Crown Royal Fine De Luxe blend, which has been aged at the Crown Royal distillery in Gimli, Manitoba.

The beverage is said to have been aged for 25 years before being bottled in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Diageo North American Whiskeys senior vice-president Sophie Kelly said: “Overall, the combination of rareness, distinctiveness and blend of whiskies that makes up Entrapment offers Canadian whisky lovers a remarkable tasting experience.

“With 97% corn and 3% malted barley, Entrapment offers a light taste with hints of tobacco and walnut.”

“Part of Canadian whisky’s success is based on distillers’ willingness to experiment with mash bills and barrels, producing complex results and bringing out unique flavours. Innovation is flourishing, giving the category the attention it deserves.”

Diageo North American Whiskey educator Doug Kragel said: “Both Crown Royal’s Canadian history and Orphan Barrel Whiskey’s legacy of rare and notable releases are quite special.

“Whiskey adorers can now taste the complexity of a 25-year-old Canadian whisky in an Orphan Barrel offering. For me, it’s almost like two worlds in one glass.”

The Orphan Barrel Project was started by Diageo in 2014 with an objective to identify forgotten barrels of whiskey from around the world.

Entrapment is the first Canadian whisky in the collection and will be available in select markets across the US for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $149.99.
