Campari Canada is planning to renovate and redevelop the Grimsby distillery in Ontari for its Forty Creek Canadian Whisky.

The company intends to carry out re-development works at the site with an investment of C$5m ($3.8m).

Campari Canada president Massimo Mottura said: “We recognise the Canadian domestic market represents a huge opportunity for growth. The retooled and improved Grimsby facility will allow Campari Canada to serve the market more efficiently and ensure we keep jobs here in Canada.”

“Since 2014, Gruppo Campari has invested more than C$200m ($155m) in Canada as part of a global strategy to prioritise the Canadian market.”

The investment is reported to be part of the Italian company’s strategy to make Canada a priority market for investment and innovation.

Ontario Minister of International Trade Michael Chan said: “Our government is working to make sure Ontario is able to compete and succeed in today’s rapidly changing global market. One of the ways we are doing this is by increasing access and export capacity for our businesses.

“Through the province’s leadership in modern international trade agreements like the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic Free Trade Agreement (CETA), we are ensuring our domestic businesses can meet the demand of consumers in some of the world’s largest markets like Europe.”

Since 2014, Gruppo Campari has invested more than C$200m ($155m) in Canada as part of a global strategy to prioritise the Canadian market, which included an initial investment of C$184m ($143m) to acquire Forty Creek Distillery.
