Anheuser-Busch’s beer brand Budweiser is set to conduct experiments at the International Space Station (ISS).

As part of the new initiative, Budweiser will be sending 20 barley seeds packaged in two Space Tango CubeLabs on SpaceX’s CRS-13 mission, which will be launched on 4 December.

The seeds will be in orbit for nearly one month before being brought back down to the earth’s atmosphere.

“Budweiser’s innovation team will be analysing these seeds to understand how its ingredients react in microgravity.”

Budweiser vice-president Ricardo Marques said: “Budweiser is always pushing the boundaries of innovation and we are inspired by the collective American Dream to get to Mars. We are excited to begin our research to brew beer for the red planet.”

For this experiment, Budweiser has partnered with Center for Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) a non-profit organisation that manages the ISS US National Laboratory, and Space Tango, a payload development company that operates two commercial research facilities within the National Lab.
